General

Bangalore weekend hike & farm stay is a 2 day guided experiential tour over weekends from Bangalore to Kolar. Key highlights include the climbing and bouldering over Antaragange the mountain with an underground spring, Kolar gold fields, bullock cart safari over Blackbuck reserve, Yoga & guided Meditation and a temple with 10 million lingams.

Day 1 – Bangalore weekend hike & farm stay

The tour starts at 6am on Saturdays from Bangalore.  The route is via National Highway 4 which connects Bangalore to Chennai. We will reach our base camp after passing through the towns of Hoskote and Kolar by around 9 am.

We first climb the 350 steps to reach the temple of Kashi Vishwanath. Pilgrims from surrounding villages frequent the temple often. Many people from surrounding villages also visit the temple to collect water from the perennial underground stream. The origin of this stream is still a mystery.

We go past the temple and enter boulder country. You will encounter rocks of all shapes and sizes all the way to the top of this mountain. There are a few caves on the way for catching a breadth. We go past the 7 villages which lie on top of the mountain.

The bouldering trail ends with a climb to the top of an old fort which is the highest point on the  mountain. The lake on top looks serene and provides a refreshing ambience for us to relax after the climb.

We reach back the base camp by noon. Lunch awaits  us in a 100 year old organic farm which is spread over 50 acres of banana plantations, coffee plantation and fruit orchards.

Towards the evening, after sufficient rest, we take a leisurely safari in a bullock cart over the farm. The adjoining plains have been declared a wild life sanctuary where blackbucks, cobra and flying foxes find safe haven.

Dinner and night halt is in the cottages spread over the farm.

Day 2 –  Yoga, Gold Mines

The day begins at 7am with guided Yoga and Meditation. An instructor will introduce you to the practice of Yoga and Meditation. After a warm up, light Yoga Asanas will be taught. This will be followed by a short session on Pranayam, the breathing technique. By now the body and breathing will be synchronized and you would be ready for a guided meditation, the final module. At 830 am breakfast awaits the rejuvenated guests.

After breakfast, we head towards the Gold mines of Kolar. Gold mining in Kolar goes back to the first millennium BC. Gold mining was at it peak during the British Rule. Gold mining was finally stopped in 1992 after reaching a point where the cost of mining exceeded the value of the precious metal.

We take a tour across the gold fields which is a ghost town now. You can still see the mining area covering the pits, left over machinery, tunnels and sand piles which still have some specks of gold left!

On the way back to the farm, we drop in to Kotilingeswar temple which is famous for its 10 million “Lingams”. This temple dedicated to Lord Shiva also features a 108 feel tall lingam and a 35 feet tall statue of Nandi.

After lunch we check out from the farm and take the route back to Bangalore.
