Farming & Fishing tour in Kochi is a an experiential tour in an organic farm over the backwaters of Kerala, near Kochi. It is a private tour, which has been designed to stimulate all the 5 senses! The highlights of this tour are participating in Paddy (rice) cultivation, fishing for prawns at night, hunting mud crabs, rowing country boat over the backwaters of the Arabian Sea and fishing.
This is a customizable tour where guests can decide the duration, departure points and nature of activities. This is an all inclusive trip where we take care of transport, stay, all meals, activities and the services of a full-time tour guide.
Farming & Fishing Itinerary
After pick up from Kochi, we move to the Organic Farm which is located on an island formed over the backwaters of Arabian Sea. It is a mesmerizing location with paddy fields, prawns, crabs and water birds.
Crab hunting
We take a country boat and row across the backwaters of the Arabian Sea. The purpose of this trip is to hunt mud crabs.
Prawn fishing at night
Fishing for prawns at night is a memorable experience. The fishing season is from November to May. During low tide we take out the country boat with lanterns. Prawns get attracted to the light in the darkness of the night. Long sluice net is used to catch the un-suspecting prawns.
Paddy (rice) cultivation
If your visit is during June-October, you can experience cultivation of a unique variety of paddy called Pokkali Paddy. This is an organic farm and hence no chemicals, fertilizers or insecticides are used. Pokkali is a unique variety of Paddy and has a high salt resisting power and is also the tallest among all paddy plants. This rice also has many medicinal properties due to its ingredients like Iron , Zinc , Pottassium and Anti-Oxidants.
Fishing net making
Another interesting experience planned is a meet with fishermen who make fishing nets.
Boating in the backwaters
The boat ride over the river is a fascinating experience as we go past villages, farms and spot a variety of water birds.
Stay is planned in the farm house where both AC and non AC rooms are available. Traditional Kerala meals are served.
